The Pain of Panes: New Windows in Short Supply

Two-thirds of builders cited a glass lack for home windows, shower doorways, and so on. The offer trouble? A ton of it is created in China, Mexico and India.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Glass joined the checklist of making materials in small source. A variety of industries, including shower doorway suppliers and window installers, report glass shortages.

Virtually two-thirds of home builders cited windows as their largest product scarcity, according to a modern survey from John Burns Serious Estate Consulting. Rounding out the top rated four in more shortages are lumber, engineered wooden products and solutions and concrete.

Window delays could variety from four to 15 weeks, although some are stretching up to 45 weeks.

Why glass? An international logistics backlog led to shortages of glass and other supplies, industry experts say. Several glass manufacturers have moved functions abroad, and China, Mexico and India customarily export the most glass and stone to the U.S.

The problem also impacts other industries. The glass scarcity has particularly influenced the source of glass jars and bottles, a contributor to the soaring price of grocery products recently.
