A new wave of retirees is considerably less interested in massive “retiree” housing developments. They want much more customized housing alternatives that match their lively lifestyle.

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. – Huge retirement communities are becoming challenged by a new wave of retirees exhibiting considerably less desire in sprawling housing developments crafted for them. Rather, today’s retirees desire customized housing alternatives that match their lively lifestyle.

The strategy of retirement communities isn’t disappearing, but it’s shifting in design and style and locale, CNBC reviews. For instance, just prior to the pandemic, much more retirement communities were being popping up in the vicinity of university campuses so that seniors could carry on lifelong learning.

Retirees want to maintain lively existence. “In some situations, you will have a lifestyle director who functions like a concierge, who will coordinate distinctive actions in just the distinctive golf equipment within the community. … People today are searching for a new journey for a section in their life,” claims Jane Marie O’Connor of fifty five+, a marketing consultant business that works with builders and developers on senior housing and existence. “Retirees are no extended relegated to southern climate. They want a community in which they can be lively among the like-minded peers.”

They’re also wanting much more customization than a standard cookie-cutter retirement community. “Over the past six months, we have seen an emphasis on outdoor space,” O’Connor claims.

Communities that cater to this much more lively retirement lifestyle are also helping seniors battle loneliness – “the most important threat to our resident’s wellness,” Amy Schectman, president and CEO of 2LifeCommunities, which serves about one,500 seniors in the Boston place, claims. “Our solution to isolation is community. Our residents want the combination of privateness when they want and the community at their doorstep.”
